RB Leipzig have released two youth players “with immediate effect” following racist misconduct. This was confirmed by the Saxons on Thursday
According to a “Bild” report, insulting remarks made to a teammate are said to have been the reason for the measure. He is said to have become the target of xenophobia, with two teammates allegedly insulting their teammate several times because of his skin color.
The incidents are said to have been reported by other players, which ultimately led to a swift response from those responsible around academy manager Manuel Baum. “The two have demonstrably made racist remarks about fellow players and thus behaved in a highly unsportsmanlike and unacceptable manner,” a club statement reads – and continues: “After the incidents became known, the sporting management immediately informed them of their dismissal. “
The players concerned were not named, but the Bundesliga club once again emphasized its stance on the issue of racism to the SID. “RB Leipzig is firmly and resolutely opposed to racist, anti-constitutional and xenophobic tendencies and other discriminatory or inhuman behavior and is particularly committed to the principle of fair play, the fight against racism and xenophobia and the support of the integration of foreign young people in sport and society.”
Leipzig emphasized that behavior that contradicts this, such as the behavior of the two youth players described above, is “neither accepted nor tolerated.”
