RB becomes Racing Bulls: Red Bull’s second team changes its name in 2025

Interesting: The Racing Bulls are changing their team name again, and now want to be officially known as such, because until now only the abbreviation RB was used: CEO Peter Bayer explains

The search for identity in Faenza continues, but this time only on a small scale: the Racing Bulls are changing their name again.

As a reminder, the Red Bulls B-Team is the former Minardi racing team based in Faenza, Italy. In 2006, the team was renamed Scuderia Toro Rosso after being purchased by the Red Bull Group, followed by another name change to Scuderia AlphaTauri in 2020 to promote the in-house clothing line.

For the 2024 Formula One season, AlphaTauri then became the Racing Bulls, or more precisely “Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team”, because the racing team is registered with the FIA, the governing body of international motor sport, under this name.

This is where the term Racing Bulls comes from

The term Racing Bulls, which is commonly used by everyone in the paddock, is only used in the company name “Racing Bulls S.p.A.”, but not in the team name – this will be corrected for the next season:

“Racing Bulls. Visa Cash App Racing Bulls – nothing has actually changed,” explained Racing Bulls CEO Peter Bayer in an interview with ServusTV regarding the new name for the 2025 season.

The Austrian reveals the reasons behind the minor change: “The question throughout the year was: ‘What does RB stand for?’ Now we’re making it official: RB stands for Racing Bulls.”

But where does the term Racing Bulls originally come from? At the team presentation in February, Bayer explained: “To perhaps go back in history a little, the name Racing Bulls is actually part of the Red Bull philosophy. There are the Flying Bulls, where Mr. Mateschitz had his airplanes. So this is actually the logical consequence.”

So now it’s official: the decision for the tongue twister

Curious: Initially, however, the team deliberately decided against the full name. “We discussed the different options, but felt that it was a bit of a tongue twister. Imagine the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls Formula 1 team, you’ll be tired at the end of writing your articles,” Bayer had joked about the abbreviation at the beginning of the year.

Now that the name seems to be firmly anchored in the memory of Formula 1 fans, the Racing Bulls dare to use the long version – and from 2025 it will be officially recognized.
