Razoon – More Than Racing triumphs at the 6h Barcelona of Gedlich Racing

The Austrian team Razoon – More Than Racing has won the 6h of Barcelona: Thomas Andersen and Simon Birch left the competition no chance

The “Razoon – More Than Racing” team from Austria made an impressive showing at the 6-hour race in Barcelona, which was organized by Gedlich Racing: Thomas Andersen and Simon Birch secured the team’s overall victory, repeating their success from the 6-hour race in Portimao in February.

The Austrian team had already demonstrated their ambitions in qualifying, when Andersen and Birch put the Porsche 992 GT3 R on pole position. But the competition in the GT3 class was strong.

In particular, the BDR-Mercedes with Alfredo Hernandez, Michael Dörrbecker and Amaury Bonduel, as well as the Thai team Star Performance with Milos Pavlovic, Sandro Mur, Aniwat Lommahadthai and Sanporn Jao-Javanil, made it difficult for the eventual overall winners.

Razoon loses the lead at the start

The race got off to a turbulent start when Niccolo Schiro’s Rossocorsa Ferrari 296 Challenge took the lead with strong acceleration. Andersen kept up, but had to hold off Aniwat Lommahadthai (Star Performance Lamborghini) and Stephane Lemeret’s CMR Lamborghini Super Trofeo.

The Belgian veteran pushed past the GT3 cars into second place, while Andersen found himself in third. In the GT4 category, SR Motorsport was forced to retire after just two laps due to engine problems. The Mercedes with Kenneth Heyer at the wheel initially took the lead, before Daniel Drexel in the Razoon Porsche Cayman took the top spot.

After the first hour of the race, Andersen brought the Razoon Porsche into the pits as the first top team and handed over to Simon Birch. Birch put in an impressive performance and built up a comfortable lead during the pit stop cycle.

Drive-through penalty for Razoon after accident

The second hour of the race was not without incident: contact between Birch and the GT4 class PCR Sport Mercedes of Josep Parera at turn 14 triggered a safety car period, and the Razoon Porsche was also handed a drive-through penalty. Shortly afterwards, the race was neutralized again after an accident involving Vicente Dasi’s PCR Mercedes.

Halfway through the race, a familiar pattern emerged: Birch and Andersen were in control, much like in Portimao. Although Razoon was not consistently in the lead, it was foreseeable that their strategic advantage was measured in laps instead of minutes.

The 35-minute pit stop time prescribed for all teams had to be completed before the last half-hour – an advantage for Razoon, because the competition still had to complete their last pit stops.

Rain showers bring chaos to the final phase

The battle for second place, on the other hand, remained exciting until the final phase: Amaury Bonduel in the BDR-Mercedes was only eight seconds ahead of Milos Pavlovic (Star Performance) when a sudden rain shower caused chaos. At first, the teams hesitated to switch to rain tires.

Pavlovic was one of the first to dare to change, but initially this did not bring any decisive advantage. It was only when the rain became more intense that Bonduel also got wet tires – but came back on the track ten seconds behind Pavlovic. Despite a strong final spurt, there was no longer enough time to catch Pavlovic.

At the front, Simon Birch brought the Razoon Porsche safely across the finish line – with a two-lap lead over the competition. He crossed the finish line at the same time as the dominant GT4 Razoon Cayman of Denny Berndt, a perfect moment for the Austrian team.

Pavlovic and teammates Aniwat Lommahadthai, Sanporn Jao-Javanil and Sandro Mur held on to second place with only a three-second lead over Bonduel, Dörrbecker and Hernandez. The CMR Lamborghini team with Stephane Lemeret, Rodrigue Gillion and Wilfried Cazalbon finished the race in fourth place.

Beaming race winners in all classes

The Cup 2 category was won by the MTech Competition Porsche 992 GT3 Cup team with Gustav Soderberg Krogh, Thomas Karlsson and Mattias Astrand. They benefited from a late defect of the GP Elite Porsche crew around Peter and Koen Munnichs.

In the GT4 class, Razoon dominated with Schneider, Berndt and Drexel, winning by a margin of five laps. The fight for second place was only decided in the last few minutes: Jay Mo Härtling in the SR-Motorsport-Mercedes prevailed shortly before the end of the race against Guillaume Aso (NM Racing).

With two consecutive overall victories in Portimao and Barcelona, Razoon – More Than Racing has impressively proven its class in the endurance racing scene. It was a milestone for Simon Birch in particular, who is gaining his first experience in GT3 racing: the young Dane set the fastest GT3 race lap of 1:40.695 minutes in the last stint.

The Gedlich Racing 6h-Series has proven to be a great success in 2025 and will be part of the Winter Series again in 2026. Both Barcelona and Portimao will once again host exciting endurance races.
