The SK Rapid Vienna have ended their cooperation with coach Didi Kühbauer. The Green-Whites made the announcement on Wednesday.
Bang effect in the Austrian Bundesliga: Record champions Rapid Wien parted company with coach Didi Kühbauer on Wednesday. The Hütteldorfer announced this in a statement.
President Martin Bruckner commented on the situation as follows: “He (Didi Kühbauer) is and remains a model Rapids player, but the current situation literally forces us to set new impulses. That is why we have decided to relieve Didi Kühbauer and his long-time assistant coach Manfred Nastl of their current functions.”
Managing Director Sport Zoran Barisic also already announced who will coach the team for the time being: “Thomas Hickersberger and Steffen Hofmann will take over the interim management of the training operations of the professional team for the time being.” Barisic doesn’t want to rush the search for a new head coach, but says: “Nevertheless, I assume that we will find a solution relatively soon.”
Rapid are currently only seventh in the domestic league and suffered a harsh 1:4 away defeat against WAC last weekend. The Green-Whites have now pulled the ripcord with the dismissal of Kühbauer.
Kühbauer had joined Rapid in October 2018 and led the team to second place in each of the past two seasons. The 50-year-old’s future is still open at the moment.
