Ralf Rangnick, sporting director at three-time Russian champions Lokomotive Moscow since the summer, has installed Markus Gisdol as coach.
The 52-year-old, sacked at Bundesliga side 1 FC Köln in April, will become head coach at the capital club “in the near future”, according to club sources.
Lokomotive is the reigning cup winner in the Europa League. In Group E with Galatasaray, Lazio and Olympique Marseille, the Russians are currently bottom of the table with one point. In the league, the traditional club is in fourth place after ten match days. The club parted company with Serbian Marko Nikolic at the beginning of the month.
Under head coach Rangnick (63), Gisdol was coach of the second team of TSG Hoffenheim and assistant at Schalke 04.
