It looks like Sergio Ramos has managed to anger Mo Salah and Liverpool fans once again and this time off the pitch. At the Champions League group stage draw, Ramos picked up the award for Defender of the Season, which will probably have annoyed Liverpool fans anyway.
Salah injured shoulder in Champions League final
He was controversially involved in a challenge that left Salah with a dislocated shoulder, which prevented him from playing on in the Champions League final. It also left him struggling for fitness and unable to start Egypt’s World Cup campaign. Whether he intended to seriously injure Salah or not, only he really knows but his behaviour at the awards presentation last night caught attention.
Ramos patted Salah’s shoulder after receiving his award
Whoever was in charge of the seating plan may have considered trying to set the rivals apart but opted to place Ramos directly behind Salah’s seat. This meant he had to walk straight past him to sit back down and he just couldn’t help himself not to touch the left shoulder that he had injured.
Salah looked less than impressed and it would be interesting to know how the conversation went after the cameras were turned off – Salah probably just gave him the cold shoulder.
Salah and Liverpool will want revenge on Ramos
One thing is for sure, if Liverpool progress from their group, they will be hoping for a rematch with Real Madrid to give them the chance to get revenge over Ramos. Salah left the ceremony empty-handed after missing out on the Player of the Year award to Luka Modric and Ronaldo picked up the Forward of the Year award.
Liverpool faces PSG, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade in their group, whilst Real Madrid will play Roma, CSKA Moscow and Viktoria Plzen. The first matches take place on the 18th and 19th September.
