Rally sponsorship: EA joins Codemasters’ Armstrong

Jon Armstrong is not only known as a rally driver, but is also at home in sim racing and at Codemasters – with EA SPORTS he has a new sponsor.

Not only does Jon Armstrong know his way around real-world rallying, he also knows his way around the world of sim racing. And so the Northern Irish racing driver’s latest partnership comes as no surprise.

On Tuesday, EA SPORTS announced it would sponsor Armstrong and his co-driver Brian Hoy in the 2022 FIA Junior WRC Championship. The 27-year-old’s car has already been unveiled on Twitter

Game designer at Codemasters

Armstrong has been actively rallying since 2008 and has been a professional since 2015.He also supports Codemasters as a game designer – the studio has been owned by EA since February 2021. He works for the British studio as a rally consultant and was involved in the development of DiRT Rally 2.0, among other things.

Armstrong has also made a name for himself in the field of sim racing: in 2018, the Northern Irishman won the world championship in the Esports WRC Championship, and the following year he still finished as runner-up.

First race in Sweden

In real rallying, the duo of Armstrong and Hoy will start the Junior WRC Championship next weekend in Sweden. The other races are in Croatia (21-24 April), Portugal (19-22 May), Estonia (14-17 July) and Greece (9-11 September).

Last season Armstrong finished second behind Sami Pajari of Finland. “I was so close to winning last season and I am confident that I can do even better,” says Armstrong before the start of the season.

On his new partner, he says: “I am immensely grateful to EA SPORTS for giving me their full support and I can’t wait to get to Sweden and start the 2022 Junior World Championship season. “
