The racing news has been filled with sadness and tributes following the death of Steve Brem, as one of most respected bloodstock agents lost his battle with cancer. At 68, he had enjoyed many successes throughout his career, dating back to his early days working for Gai Waterhouse.

Waterhouse was one of the first to lead the tributes: “A lovely man. He knew what we needed in a horse and found it. I admired him, particularly for his courage. He would have an operation and still be at the yearling sales working for his clients after he finished working with me.”
Win at Randwick is best way to honour Steve
On Saturday, Brem’s impact on racing and the legacy he leaves behind him will be clear to see with D’Argento and Fiesta looking to win the Group 1 races at Randwick. Denise Martin who worked with Brem over the last few years recalled how fond he was of the two horses and talked about how a win would be the greatest tribute to Brem: “It would be a great if that could happen. We will look to honour Steve in some way in Saturday’s race but the best way would be by winning.”

Black caviar’s son has broken his maiden. The Prince of Caviar rode to victory at Bendigo on Wednesday, with a 1-1/4 length win in the Share Media Maiden Plate. Jockey Luke Nolen described the win: “It was a tradesmanlike performance today but he’s going in the right direction and I think he’ll be a nice horse come the autumn. It’s all in front of him and this is a bonus at this stage.”
