Quarter-final thrashing for co-favorite Tsitsipas

An exciting duel was expected between Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals of the French Open. But it turned out quite differently

Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz has reached the semi-finals of the French Open in Paris, just like last year. The 21-year-old Spaniard convincingly beat the world number nine Stefanos Tsitsipas 6:3, 7:6 (7:3), 6:4 at Roland Garros on Tuesday evening.

Alcaraz had the Greek, who initially played very incorrectly, under control right from the start. Tsitsipas was only able to keep the duel on an equal footing in the second set and at times in the third. After 2:15 hours, the evening session on Court Philippe-Chatrier was already over

Duell with new world number one

In the round of the last four, Alcaraz will face Jannik Sinner, who will become the first professional from Italy to take first place in the ATP rankings on Monday. The 22-year-old South Tyrolean won his quarter-final against Grigor Dimitrov (Bulgaria) 6:2, 6:4, 7:6 (7:3).

Alexander Zverev and Alex de Minaur (Australia) will battle it out for the last remaining place in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening (8.15pm). The winner will face Casper Ruud from Norway, finalist of the last two years.

Ruud reaches the semi-finals without a fight. He would have played against the previous world number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic, who announced his withdrawal from the tournament on Tuesday due to a torn medial meniscus in his right knee.
