The next chapter in the Dani Olmo case has been written: with a provisional permission to play, he is allowed to play for FC Barcelona again, just like his teammate Pau Victor.
FC Barcelona has received this permission from the national sports council CSD. This is now valid until there is a final ruling in this farce. This means that Dani Olmo and Pau Victor are now available to the Catalans again.
FC Barcelona had missed the deadline, as it did last summer, to register the 2024 European champions for the second half of the season because the debt-ridden club was unable to meet the financial requirements of the Spanish league association LFP by the December 31 deadline.
As La Liga initially announced on New Year’s Day, Olmo was not to be given a playing license for this season, nor was substitute Pau Victor. The Blaugrana have now been able to counteract this ruling for the time being, but of course they have to wait for the final ruling, which could drag on for months. The associations accuse Barca of not complying with the applicable financial rules.
Flick is optimistic
Flick had recently appeared optimistic. “I have confidence that the club will manage this,” said the former national coach. “Dani wants to play for Barcelona. We need him just like we need Pau Victor. They are very good players.”
The coach can now put the two back into action for the time being. They will not be available for Wednesday’s Supercopa in Saudi Arabia against Athletic Bilbao. If Barcelona win, they will face either Real Madrid or Mallorca in the final on Sunday. Barcelona, currently third in La Liga, will be back in action in the league on January 18 against Getafe.
