In the long term, Riot Games is extending the operating license of Freaks 4U Gaming for the Prime League. In addition, there will be some changes to the 2nd and 3rd leagues for 2025.
The Prime League will continue to be operated by Freaks 4U Gaming. The global full-service agency for gaming and eSports announced this in a press release. The contract with Riot Games has been extended until 2027. In addition, Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) will remain the title partner for the coming year.
Since 2018, Freaks 4U Gaming has been committed to the development of League of Legends in the DACH region as the operator of the Premier Tour, the forerunner of the Prime League. With the recently held offline finals of the Summer Split 2024 in the Ratiopharm Arena in Neu-Ulm, the league celebrated the biggest offline event in its history. More than 2,300 fans, partners and B2B guests were in attendance.
More teams and splits
“We are incredibly proud of the license extension for the Prime League. It stands for the solid foundation we have created,” says Matthias Remmert, Senior Vice President for Product, TV and Media Production at Freaks 4U Gaming. Together with the Techniker Krankenkasse, they want to develop new ideas – for example, how the community approach and the league as a whole can be further developed, adds Remmert.
A number of changes will be made to the 2nd and 3rd leagues of the Prime League from 2025. Firstly, the number of teams in the 2nd league will be increased from 10 to 16. Secondly, the seasons will be restructured. The number of annual splits will be increased to three: a winter event (September to December), a spring event (January to April) and a summer event (May to August). After each split, there will be a relegation between the 2nd and 3rd leagues. In addition, teams will be given more opportunities to develop, both in terms of visibility and marketing.
