Talented tennis player Nastasja Schunk (20) has been crowned German champion for the first time in her career. Born in Mainz, she beat Stephanie Wagner (Amberg) 6:3, 6:2 in the women’s final at the end of the title fights in Biberach.
“The victory means a lot to me. It was a good end to a difficult year,” said the two-time Grand Slam participant Schunk, who was out injured for a long time this year.
In the men’s competition, Patrick Zahraj (24) also celebrated his maiden victory. The 24-year-old beat veteran Daniel Masur (29) 7:6 (7:3), 7:5. On his way to the title, Zahraj had knocked out the number one seed Marko Topo (Gräfelfing), among others, in round one.
