Paolo Campinoti is happy to enter his fourth year with Jorge Martin as a Pramac rider in 2024 – In the future, he sees the Spaniard with a different team and manufacturer
Although Jorge Martin fought for the title in the 2023 MotoGP season until the end and was only narrowly beaten by his Ducati brand colleague Francesco Bagnaia, the Spaniard will once again compete for the Pramac satellite team in the new racing year and not for the factory team
Martin was already considered a hot candidate to join the Ducati factory team in 2023, but Enea Bastianini was given preference. However, Bastianini was injured for most of last season, which is why there was renewed speculation about Martin’s promotion. But Ducati continued to hold on to Bastianini.
The boss of the Pramac team, Paolo Campinoti, is happy to be able to keep the reigning vice world champion. “These are things that Ducati does. They are the ones who decide who gets into the factory team or not,” emphasized Campinoti in an interview with the Italian Gazzetta dello Sport.
With Martin, he and Pramac celebrated four Grand Prix and nine sprint victories last year. In retrospect, Campinoti considers the fact that these successes once again brought him into play for a move to the works team to be counterproductive.
“Last year, they returned to Jorge at some point at Ducati, but doing it during the season was not very positive because it was a bit of a distraction,” says the Italian.
Martin’s fourth season at Pramac will also be his last, the team boss is convinced: “That’s for sure.” However, the Spaniard has little confidence in the possibility that he will be Bagnaia’s teammate in 2025, says Campinoti
“In my opinion, he will leave. He could go to Honda, they need a strong rider and among the young riders, he is the one with more guarantees.”
Shortly after the end of the 2023 season, Martin made it clear that his goal for 2025 was to ride for a works team. “The goal is to get on the red bike,” said the runner-up. “I know it will be difficult because there is a lot of competition for this position, but I think I have shown enough.”
“And if I don’t make it,” added Martin, “we will look elsewhere.” Numerous driver contracts expire at the end of 2024, even with the top teams. As a result, the driver market is likely to pick up speed early in the coming season
