Positive signal for Aprilia: Fernandez fit again for MotoGP test in Buriram

Trackhouse-Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez successfully operated: A team spokesperson announced that Fernandez will be back on his Aprilia for the MotoGP test in Buriram

One day after his crash at the MotoGP winter test in Sepang, Malaysia, Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez has already undergone successful surgery. After returning to Europe, the doctors in Barcelona fixed Fernandez’s injured finger in his left hand with a pin. According to a spokesperson for the Trackhouse team, Fernandez will be able to ride again as early as next week.

Fernandez left Sepang on Wednesday evening and landed in Barcelona on Thursday morning. At the Dexeus University Hospital, which is very popular with MotoGP professionals, Dr. Xavier Mir was already waiting for the injured Trackhouse driver.

“The operation was successful. He had a clean fracture without displacement at the base of the little finger of his left hand. They inserted a small pin to stabilize it,“ a spokesperson for the driver announced.

”Raul can start rehabilitation immediately and travel to the next tests in Thailand,” adds the team member from Fernandez’s camp. In less than a week, the second MotoGP winter test of the new year will begin in Buriram.

This is good news for Aprilia, because Fernandez was not the only one of the four regular drivers to be injured in a crash during the test opener. It also hit fellow Aprilia rider and world champion Jorge Martin, whose injuries after the high side in turn 2, however, require a longer break.

Fernandez crashed in turn 9 of the Malaysian circuit and the initial medical examinations revealed two fractures, both on the left side of his body. The fracture of the little finger on his left hand forced him to travel to Barcelona.

“The foot injury is a small crack that does not require surgery,” said a spokesperson for Fernandez. Fernandez was lucky. Unlike Martin, he did not suffer any head injuries, so he was able to return to Europe immediately. Martin, on the other hand, had to spend the night in Malaysia under medical supervision.
