Fortuna Düsseldorf must do without Shinta Appelkamp “until further notice”. The 20-year-old had to go into domestic quarantine after a positive PCR test.
Only on Tuesday, Appelkamp had departed from the Germany U 21 due to illness. The midfield talent had not been feeling well, so the team management decided in consultation with Fortuna Düsseldorf that he should return to his club early. He therefore missed the European Championship qualifying match of the German U 21 on Tuesday evening in Hungary (5:1).
Appelkamp shows “COVID-19-typical symptoms “
Appelkamp will also not be able to play for Fortuna Düsseldorf for the time being. The second division club announced on Thursday morning that he had tested positive for PCR. According to the club’s statement, Appelkamp, who has a double vaccination, showed “symptoms typical of COVID-19” and was therefore placed in domestic quarantine.
The infection probably occurred during his stay with the U21 team and would not be the only infection during the international match week of the German youth team. Last week, Stuttgart’s Roberto Massimo tested positive for the corona virus, and the 21-year-old also left the team’s quarters at the Klosterpforte Marienfeld early.
Appelkamp has been wearing the Fortuna jersey for six years, last season he celebrated his breakthrough as a professional and has now played in 30 games in the 2nd division.
