Rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence is still struggling, things are still not going well in the city of New York (but more so in the surrounding areas) – and the Chicago Bears are not getting the yards. Best of NFL 2021, Week 3 …
The Carolina Panthers have started the new season 3-0 – and quarterback Sam Darnold (former New York Jets) already has 888 yards, three passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns. With the three running scores, the playmaker even leads the NFL ranking, as running backs like Derrick Henry also have only three TDs so far.
Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens has set a new NFL record. The kicker converted from 66 yards just before the end of the game at the Detroit Lions to win 19:17, making the longest field goal in history (just over 60 yards).
3. Kick returner Jamal Agnew of the Jacksonville Jaguars also posted a record. After a too-short 64-yard field-goal attempt by Cardinals kicker Matt Prater, the darting Jags pro grabbed the “egg” and carried it 109 yards into the opposing end zone – kick-six. It was only the third 109-yard touchdown in NFL history. Only Cordarelle Patterson (2013, kick-off return) and Antonio Cromartie (2007, also after a failed field-goal attempt) had previously managed the same.
Chicago not only lost to the Cleveland Browns by a clear 6:26, but at the same time presented an absolute offensive disaster. The Bears averaged only 1.1 yards per play and gained a total of only 47 yards over the entire four quarters. In terms of passing yards, things looked even more devastating: Quarterback Justin Fields, who has to compete internally with Andy Dalton and Nick Foles, ended up with only one yard to his name (sacks deducted some).
5. for the first time in his long career (since 2000) Tom Brady played an NFL game in Los Angeles, the local Chargers (formerly in San Diego) and Rams (formerly in St. Louis), as is well known, only returned to L.A. some time ago. For the seven-time NFL champion it was a visit to forget: He lost with his Buccaneers with 24:34.
Speaking of Brady and the Bucs: Super Bowl winner Tampa Bay hadn’t lost since November 2020, but now it was time again after ten wins including play-offs. 7.
The Las Vegas Raiders are something like the team of the moment in the National Football League. The team around star quarterback Derek Carr has not only won all three games this season, but every opponent so far (Ravens, Steelers, Dolphins) has been a team with at least ten victories.
8. the Denver Broncos are also 3-0 – and even if the opponents (Giants, Jaguars, Jets) are each 0-3, this interim record deserves respect. Especially since playmaker Teddy Bridgewater has really delivered so far: His pass rate of 76.8 percent is just as top in the entire NFL as his interceptions (0).
9 In New York, fans of both camps continue to suffer as both the Giants and Jets fail to get going. Both franchises are 0-3, despite hopes of improvement after already dismal years. Only if you include the state of New York can the balance be improved for the region. Because then the Buffalo Bills (2:1) count.
Trevor Lawrence is the first-overall pick of this year’s draft, so it’s clear that the quarterback is in the spotlight – and still struggling in the NFL. The 21-year-old is already on seven interceptions in addition to five touchdown passes – and is 0-3 with his Jaguars. The last playmaker to throw at least seven interceptions in three games to start his NFL career was Deshone Kizer in 2017. His team back then? The Cleveland Browns. The record at the end: 0:16.
11: The San Francisco 49ers surprised the Green Bay Packers, who had led for a long time in the Sunday Night Game, late – and led 28:27 shortly before the end. There were 37 seconds left on the clock – too much from the Niners’ point of view. Because Aaron Rodgers & Co. still won.
