Polish tennis pro Hubert Hurkacz has won the grass court tournament in Halle, Westphalia. The 25-year-old won the final against the Russian world number one Daniil Medvedev surprisingly clearly with 6:1, 6:4 and thus crowned an impressive week.
Hurkacz took his third match point after just 62 minutes. Crowd favourite Oscar Otte had narrowly missed out on a place in the final on Saturday with a loss to Medvedev. Nevertheless, the 28-year-old from Cologne travels to Wimbledon full of confidence. The tennis classic starts on 27 June.
Hurkacz dominated the final of the event, which is endowed with 2.275 million euros, in an astonishing manner. The Pole managed two fast breaks and took the first set after just 26 minutes. In the second set, Hurkacz also took the service from the world number one immediately and did not let himself be stopped after that.
