Pogba Claims Manchester United are Mentally Stronger Now After Champions League Victory

POG MAR

Paul Pogba has been singled out for plenty of criticism this season, with even his own manager not backing his player at times. You can see Mourinho’s disillusion with Pogba stems from the idea that one day he plays like the highly skilled midfielder that helped France lift the World Cup in Russia but the next game he goes missing. Last night in Switzerland, Pogba was the main man and he rounded off a solid performance with two well-taken goals.

Pogba scored two and assisted one

His first goal showed his superior quality as he calmly controlled the ball before lashing it into the corner of the net. His second goal came from a penalty that Young Boys were understandably unhappy about. A dubious handball decision was given when a cross came into the box.

Martial also gets on the scoresheet

Pogba then turned provider in the second half, picking out Martial who was able to guide the ball past the keeper. Manchester United had struggled against both Brighton and Spurs in the Premier League but a resounding away victory in the Champions League will have gone a long way to confirm their revival.

After the match, Pogba was interviewed and said: “Obviously when you win you are happier, mentally we are stronger, we get better, we change the team but even the players who come in feel already like they are in the team, and that’s all we need.”

United hero Ronaldo could miss his homecoming

United now face Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday, where they will be hoping to continue their winning form. The news that Ronaldo will potentially miss the Champions League meetings between the clubs will also give them a boost. Ronaldo’s return to his old club looks in jeopardy after he received a straight red in his first Champions League match for Juventus last night.
