At the Serie A match between Cagliari Calcio and Milan (0:1), two visiting players were allegedly racially insulted.
Milan coach Stefano Pioli said after the final whistle that keeper Mike Maignan and defender Fikayo Tomorihad been racially abused by Cagliari supporters at the end of the Serie A clash. Maignan had been celebrating the 1-0 win with Tomori after the final whistle.
Pioli’s statement is countered by that of Joao Pedro. The Brazilian-Italian Cagliari striker insisted he had not heard any racist abuse and broke a lance for the club’s fans. “It’s a very delicate matter, but I was in midfield at the time. It’s not a pleasant situation, but I’ve been part of this team for eight years and I defend the fans because I didn’t hear anything.”
The Lombards, for their part, also reacted on their Twitter account: “This Serie A matchday was dedicated to the fight against racism, but there is still a long way to go and we have to keep fighting together. “
