“Philadelphia is my home“: Embiid signs retirement contract with the Sixers

Joel Embiid remains loyal to the Philadelphia 76ers. The center announced on social media that he had agreed to a contract extension with Philadelphia.

”Philadelphia is my home,” the Cameroonian wrote on Instagram. ”I want to spend the rest of my career here. I love the community and everything you have given me and my family.”

According to Shams Charania (The Athletic), the new deal is a maximum three-year contract extension until 2029, with the last year containing a player option. The center still had a contract until 2026 that will earn him around $107 million. In addition to this, there is around $193 million, although the sum is not yet set in stone as it depends on the salary cap, which has not yet been determined for 2026.

Embiid was drafted by the Sixers in 2014 at position three, but missed the first two years due to injuries. Subsequently, the big man rose to become one of the NBA’s best players and was awarded the MVP award in 2023. However, team success was limited. With Embiid, the Sixers have never reached the Conference Finals; last year, they were knocked out in the first playoff round by the New York Knicks Before that, the center had an historic season in which he scored more points than he played minutes on the field. In just 39 games, Embi You deserve a championship and for us this is just the beginning.”

Philadelphia is considered one of the winners of the free agency, with Paul George.
