Madrid – Tennis player Andrea Petkovic lost her first round match against Canadian US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez in three sets in Madrid.
The 34-year-old from Darmstadt lost 1-6, 6-1, 4-6 to the world number 20 at the WTA clay-court tournament. Petkovic is number 64 in the world.
She had celebrated her return to the WTA Tour in the qualifying round of the tournament after previously having to take a break due to adductor problems. After the cancellation of Angelique Kerber, Petkovic was the only German in the main draw.
