VfL Wolfsburg will not sign a new left-back in the winter transfer period. With Paulo Otavio unable to return to action, problem child Jerome Roussillon is called upon.
Paulo Otavio, who quickly regained his regular place after his ankle injury in the summer, will not be able to make another appearance this season.
The 27-year-old tore his cruciate ligament in his right knee on 11 December, required surgery and is still in the early stages of rehab.
Can problem child Roussillon get its act together?
The chance for Roussillon to regain his lost place. In fact, it might be the Frenchman’s last chance to get his act together.
After his strong debut season in 2018/19, Roussillon was unable to build on the performances he had shown and increasingly became a problem child. Doubts about his ability to perform have grown steadily over the past few seasons, with the perennially injured defender making just seven appearances in the starting eleven this season.
