Stuttgart – Former world-class tennis player Pam Shriver has made public what she says was an inappropriate relationship with a much older coach in her youth.
Her motivation is to let people know that such things still exist – even frequently, the 59-year-old American told The Telegraph. She believes abusive coaching relationships are worryingly common in sport in general. She herself had started a relationship with her 50-year-old coach when she was 17, and the relationship lasted just over five years. In the pandemic, she had finally found the courage to see a therapist.
