The FC Bayern has suffered revenue losses in the 2020/21 financial year. This was announced by the club on Thursday evening.
As can be seen from a press release issued by the record champion on the evening of the annual general meeting, the group’s total turnover in the past financial year amounts to 643.9 million euros. The profit after tax amounts to 1.9 million euros. In the 2019/20 financial year, turnover had still amounted to 698 million euros, while profit after tax was 9.8 million euros
The association cites the challenges posed by the Corona pandemic as the reason for the losses. These would “also apply in particular to FC Bayern “, CEO Oliver Kahn is quoted as saying in the statement. “Since 8 March 2020, we have had very few matches with spectators in the Allianz Arena. Despite these circumstances, revenue and profit in the past financial year have turned out well in my eyes.”
Kahn’s deputy in charge of finances, Jan-Christian Dreesen, spoke of a “very big burden” caused by the pandemic. “Playing the entire season without spectators means not only an emotional hole but also very painful losses in revenue.” Nevertheless, the club is “on a solid foundation”.
The club also expects a reduced level of revenue for the 2021/22 season now underway.
