Overwatch League: LA Gladiators and Seoul Dynasty cheer on Kickoff Clash

LA Gladiatos and Seoul Dynasty clearly beat their final opponents in the June tournament of the official Overwatch League. Both teams achieve the important success surprisingly.

The first of the four major tournaments in the ongoing Overwatch League is over. After an exciting qualification round, many high-class matches and thrilling duels followed in the play-offs of the “Kickoff Clash”. By the way, the game is being played in the beta of Overwatch 2.

The OWL is divided into the West and East regions. In Los Angeles, the LA Gladiators celebrated a home victory that came as a surprise even to experts. After qualifying, the San Francisco Shock team was the big favourite for the title in the West. In the end, however, they only managed fourth place. The Gladiators marched through the brackets to the Grand Final with a 3:0, a 3:1 and another 3:0.

There, the team around Patiphan ‘Patiphan’ Chaiwong scored a clear 4-0 victory over Dallas Fuel. The 18-year-old Thai burst into tears afterwards – even while his teammates were still in jubilation.

Great emotions at ‘Patiphan’

“It means everything to me, I have no words for it. It’s so overwhelming,” the young eSportsman said while still wiping tears from his eyes. In his very first season, he was able to secure a title in the first tournament.

In a similarly spectacular fashion, Seoul Dynasty forced their way to victory in the Eastern Region. Although the organisation slipped into the lower bracket, Seoul held their nerve, coming back to win 3-0 and 3-2 to find themselves in the final. There, Philadelphia Fusion was defeated by a clear 4-0 margin.

A prize pool of 330,000 US dollars was played for. As the winning organisation, the Gladiators took home a share of 75,000 US dollars, with around 50,000 US dollars going to Seoul Dynasty. The Overwatch League will enter the next tournament phase, the so-called “Midseason Madness”, on 16 June.
