Which brand has won the most DTM titles? In addition to the drivers’ championship, the manufacturers’ championship is particularly important – an overview of all the manufacturers’ champions
Although the drivers’ title in the DTM often attracts the most attention, the manufacturers’ championship also plays an important role. It is an indicator of the technical expertise and innovative strength of the car brands and shows how successfully a manufacturer performs over the entire season.
The manufacturers’ championship reflects the competition among the brands and their ability to consistently perform well in a highly competitive series like the DTM. While the team championship was first introduced with the “new DTM” in 2000, the brands have been competing for the manufacturers’ title since the beginning of the DTM in 1984.
The ADAC wanted to abolish the manufacturers’ championship for the 2023 season, but there was resistance from the manufacturers. This shows the importance that the separate classification, in which the two best-placed vehicles of each manufacturer (brand) are rewarded with points, has acquired in the meantime.
In contrast to the drivers’ title, where the individual performance of a driver is often the main focus, the manufacturers’ championship recognizes the overall commitment of a manufacturer – from vehicle development to the strategic decisions made by the teams during the races.
The competition between the major brands, in particular Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW, has shaped the DTM over the years and will continue to ensure that the series remains exciting and technologically sophisticated.
