One more year for Neuer and Müller at Bayern

FC Bayern München want to make their tenth championship in a row perfect – and a few personnel matters to go with it.

On Saturday evening the showdown against Borussia Dortmund takes place, then the FCB wants to celebrate its tenth (!) German championship in a row.

Thomas Müller (32) and Manuel Neuer (36) are the only FCB professionals who have been on this tour of success in its entirety. Versatile attacker Müller influenced it on the offensive with 104 goals plus 149 assists in a total of 306 league appearances. Neuer guarded the Munich box in 274 league games during this period, conceding 133 times and suffering a goal 202 times.

Neuer and Müller have been pursuing their careers together at the club for eleven years now, and both played a key role in shaping the era at the record champions that began in 2012, Neuer long since as captain and Müller as his first deputy.

The end of their tenure has so far been set for 30 June 2023, but an extension for an additional year has been negotiated in recent weeks. Those talks have not been finalised for either Neuer or Muller – a few details are still being worked out, they say – but the prospects of an agreement are good.

Continuation possible beyond 2024

An item like a farewell game has long been contractually agreed, also the duration of the cooperation. Where previously an extension of two years had been assumed, it will now remain at one.

Müller has projected the end of his active time to his 35th year, Neuer wants to make his professional future dependent on his fitness. Therefore, a continuation beyond 2024 is possible for both, provided the corresponding performance. Such an agreement has been reached.
