For the second year in a row, the organizers of the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix have reported rising spectator numbers at the race track
“Sold out” and well attended was the 2024 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix. As the organizers announced at the start of the race on Sunday, 275,000 spectators were counted on site at the Miami International Autodrome over the entire weekend. This is a record for the still young Grand Prix
By comparison, just under 243,000 fans came to the track for the first edition of the race two years ago. In 2023, Miami increased its capacity and attracted 270,500 for a Grand Prix visit. The next increase of 4,500 people followed for 2024.
But it’s important to know: There were not 275,000 individuals on site in Miami. This is because, as is usual for major events lasting several days, all event days are evaluated individually and added together in Formula 1. In other words, fans who are at the track every day from Thursday to Sunday are included in the spectator statistics a total of four times.
And figures for race Sunday alone are not yet available for Miami. However, after 85,000 in 2022 and 90,000 in 2023, the figure is likely to have been in a similar range.
Where Miami stands in international comparison
In an international comparison of previous Formula 1 races in 2024, Miami ranks second with 275,000 spectators behind Melbourne (Australia), where the organizers reported 452,000 spectators. Suzuka (Japan) is currently in third place with 229,000 spectators.
The season opener in Sachir (Bahrain) continues to bring up the rear with 100,000, while no official figures are available for Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) despite several inquiries.
Ex-team boss Steiner praises Miami
Former Formula 1 team boss Günther Steiner, official ambassador for the Miami Grand Prix since 2024, has words of praise for the local organizers on Sky: “They learn very quickly. After the first year, they have changed a lot. They really want to have the best race. Miami as a city is pretty cool. And I think it was a great weekend for the sport and the people here.”
Formula 1 expert Ralf Schumacher agrees with Steiner and tells Sky that he has also recognized improvements compared to previous years. “My feeling is that [the organizers in Miami] have gotten a bit used to Formula 1,” said Schumacher.
