At the end of the BBL year, Alba Berlin and the Chemnitz 99ers faced each other on Sunday afternoon. And the record champions were able to stop the surprise winners
Alba Berlin has ended the winning streak of league leaders Niners Chemnitz. The club from the capital won 101:90 (60:45) against the club from Saxony in front of 9887 spectators on New Year’s Eve. Alba thus defended its place at the top of the table. Chemnitz suffered another defeat after twelve league wins in a row, but remains top of the table.
Sterling Brown was the best scorer in Alba’s eighth win in its eleventh game, which the Berlin club opened with an outstanding first quarter (34:19), scoring 25 points (4 rebounds, 3 assists). His buzzer beater from the halfway line was particularly impressive. He drained a total of five of his eight three-point attempts (62.5% shooting percentage).
World champion Johannes Thiemann contributed 17 points. He is now just two points short of the 2000 mark in the Beletage. The 29-year-old also only needs eight more rebounds to reach the 1,000 rebound mark.
Kevin Yebo scored 21 points for Chemnitz, but he retired early due to five personal fouls.
