Hamburg SV have made another move shortly before the transfer window closes. Marco Richter joins the Red Shorts on loan from 1. FSV Mainz 05
With HSV missing Bakery Jatta, who will be out for weeks with an ankle ligament injury, those responsible at the Hanseatic club were forced to strike again on the transfer market. They have now found what they were looking for in Marco Richter, who is on loan from Bundesliga club Mainz 05.
“In the past few days, the opportunity has arisen at very short notice to win Marco for us and realize a loan,” explained HSV sports director Stefan Kuntz, who still knows Richter from their time together in the DFB’s youth ranks.
On the outside under Henriksen in Mainz
Richter, who can be deployed variably in attack and not just on the wings, only moved to Mainz last season after Hertha BSC were relegated, but the 26-year-old was not completely satisfied at the Rheinhessen club. Richter made 20 appearances last season, only once over the full distance
Since the appointment of Bo Henriksen in February, Richter has not featured at all – the former Germany U-21 international played just 43 minutes in 14 games under the Dane.
“Marco is a versatile attacking player who is characterized by his determination and his drive for goal,” said Director of Professional Football Claus Costa, describing the new signing, who himself said: ”It’s a huge deal and I can hardly wait to play in front of these fans in this stadium. I want to help HSV with goals and assists and will give my best. “
Richter and Kuntz know each other
In Hamburg, Richter now wants to regain his old strength. After all, he will also be meeting a confidant in sporting director Stefan Kuntz. Richter celebrated his eight appearances for the U21s under Kuntz – including at the 2019 European Championship.
He could be on the pitch for HSV for the first time on Saturday – when Richter & Co. face newly promoted Preußen Münster.
