Miguel Oliveira will not compete in the 2025 Grand Prix of The Americas in Austin due to an injury – Augusto Fernandez will step in as a replacement rider for Pramac.
Miguel Oliveira will not take part in the 2025 Grand Prix of The Americas, which takes place in Austin in two weeks’ time. This was announced by Yamaha and the Pramac team this Thursday.
The Portuguese decided to skip the MotoGP event in Austin after his serious crash in the sprint from Argentina in order to fully recover from an injury to the joint in his left shoulder.
“After returning home, an MRI was performed which confirmed a dislocation of the joint with a torn ligament,” explains Oliveira. The doctors discussed various options for the fastest possible recovery, but in the end it was decided to immobilize the arm for the time being.
“The timing of my return is uncertain, as we have to wait and see how my body reacts to the treatment,” he adds. The situation will be reassessed weekly to plan a possible return to the season. However, the priority is to make a full recovery in order to return in top form.
Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez will replace Oliveira at the Austin circuit. The Spaniard is grateful for the opportunity and wishes Oliveira a speedy recovery. “I hope he can return soon,” he says.
Fernandez also emphasizes: “Austin is a great track and I can’t wait to ride the M1 again. I’m really looking forward to starting the race weekend.” He last competed in the Grand Prix at Barcelona in 2024, riding a KTM. He then became a Yamaha test driver.
Oliveira was taken out by Fermin Aldeguer in the Argentina sprint and subsequently skipped Sunday’s Grand Prix race to get more extensive testing done at home. Aldeguer received a long-lap penalty.
