Luka Sucic leaves Red Bull Salzburg after eight years and joins Spanish first division club Real Sociedad with immediate effect. The Croatian attacker has signed a long-term contract with the Basque club until the summer of 2030
What was already announced on Thursday evening is now final: Luka Sucic is leaving the dethroned champions Red Bull Salzburg and joining Spanish first division club Real Sociedad. The 21-year-old attacking player has signed a long-term contract until the summer of 2030 with the Basque side, who were the Bulls’ group opponents in the Champions League last season. According to media reports, the transfer fee will be ten million euros. For Sucic, it is a farewell to the city of Mozart after eight years, where he went through the entire academy and subsequently matured into a regular in the professional team
Sporting Director Bernhard Seonbuchner therefore bids farewell to the long-serving professional with a great deal of pride: “Luka Sucic has been with us for many years and is a prime example of how players can develop at FC Red Bull Salzburg. He has gone through all stages of development in the academy and has not only become an absolute top performer in our team during his time with us, but also already has a World Cup and a European Championship appearance with the senior national team to his name. It makes us very proud to know that Luka will be playing in a top European league in the future. We will also be following his career from afar. “
18 goals in 128 competitive matches
Sucic had been playing for Mozartstädter since the age of 13 and finally made the leap to the professional team via the academy and after 26 games for cooperative club FC Liefering, for which he made his Bundesliga debut on September 13, 2020 in a 3-1 win over Wolfsberger AC at the age of 18 years and five days. In total, the ten-time Croatian international appeared in 128 competitive matches for Salzburg, contributing 18 goals and 19 assists. During this time, he celebrated three championships and two victories in the ÖFB Cup
Now comes the next step in Sucic’s career, as he bids a fond farewell to his long-time home club: “I am very grateful to the club and all the people here in Salzburg for what I was able to experience. It was an outstanding time and I have so many wonderful memories, also because we won so much. I’ve been here for eight years now, came to Salzburg as a child and am now leaving as a man. Although I’m looking forward to my new club, it’s very difficult to find the right words right now. “
