The FC Bayern gave a bad impression at its turbulent annual general meeting and also fell out with a number of members. Now the club has written a letter to its members.
“After last week’s annual general meeting, we do not want to, cannot and should not simply move on to the agenda,” it says. “Without question, this annual general meeting unfortunately did not go as we are used to from our FC Bayern.”
There had been great turbulence around the Qatar issue at the club’s members’ meeting. Numerous fans are bothered by their club’s business dealings with the host country of the 2022 World Cup, and the evening culminated in President Herbert Hainer breaking off the meeting and some members present shouting “Hainer out!”.
“Despite all the turbulence – and we certainly haven’t done everything right on this issue – our club stands in an exemplary position overall, even in this pandemic: sporting, economically as well as socially,” the club’s management emphasised.
Discourse with the members is to be intensified
The club management was aware “that there had been a lot of build-up on the subject of Qatar “, the club management wrote. “However, we ask for your understanding once again that we were unable to vote this evening on a motion that had been declared inadmissible by the regional court in the morning for legal reasons – but at the same time we assure you that we will intensify the discourse with our members.”
The club said it wanted to “find a way together” on the Qatar issue. They had already “contacted those whose requests to speak were no longer considered, first meetings have already taken place since then and more have been arranged for the near future. In addition, we are working intensively on the annual general meeting and have taken the first concrete decisions to improve the dialogue with our members. “
