Fortuna Düsseldorf must look for a new board chairman. Thomas Röttgermann will no longer hold the post after his contract expires.
Röttgermann’s contract expires in April, and the supervisory board had made the incumbent CEO, who has held the post at Fortuna since 2019, an offer to continue working. However, the long-serving managing director of VfL Wolfsburg (2010-2017) turned this down.
“The management concept explained to me by the supervisory board did not convince me that it was suitable for meeting the upcoming challenges that Fortuna will inevitably face,” Röttgermann was quoted as saying in a statement on the Düsseldorf website.
Moreover, in recent weeks and months “it has become clear that it is obviously very difficult to trigger a broad formation of opinion and will in the supervisory board and to achieve a sufficient, qualified majority for urgent – also personnel – decisions,” Röttgermann continued.
