The 1:4 against Rot-Weiß Koblenz has immediate consequences: On the evening of the game, SG Sonnenhof Großaspach parted ways with coach Steffen Weiß. The regional league club is relying on an internal solution until the winter.
Only 150 spectators turned up when Großaspach faced Rot-Weiß Koblenz in the Regionalliga Südwest on this Wednesday evening. They saw a disappointing first half in which coach Steffen Weiß’ team conceded three goals in just six minutes and ended up losing 1:4.
After the game, the village club announced: Weiß has been released and his current assistant Marcus Lauer will take over the team for the remaining three games this year.
The players are now challenged.
“We have made this decision anything but easy,” said sporting director Michael Ferber, but then added: “In the end, the sporting development and the performances of the team in recent weeks leave us no other choice.” After a successful start to the season with 13 points from their first six games, Großaspach won only one of their subsequent 13 games and plummeted to a relegation spot on Wednesday night.
Weiß had only joined SGS in the summer, and now the 33-year-old has to leave again. In the course of this, Ferber took the team in particular to task. “The players are especially challenged in the extremely important three games before the turn of the year,” emphasised the sports director. The last three opponents are Astoria Walldorf, SSV Ulm and Mainz II.
