Spanish Rafael Nadal will not compete again at the Laver Cup in London. The 22-time Grand Slam winner has decided to return to his wife as soon as possible after parting ways with Roger Federer. The couple are expecting the birth of their first child in the coming weeks.
“The last few weeks have been difficult, I’ve hardly slept and I’ve been stressed,” said Nadal, 36, whose wife struggled with complications during her pregnancy. “Fortunately, everything is fine now, which made it possible for me to come here,” the 36-year-old tennis pro said.
In Team Europe, the Spaniard will be replaced by Cameron Norrie. The Briton is already the second substitute to be used in Team Europe since Roger Federer is no longer able to play singles. His place has been taken by Gstaad finalist Matteo Berrettini.
