Professional League of Legends player Sang-hyeok ‘Faker’ Lee complains about a big problem for the MOBA. Even some players with high rank destroy the fun of the game.
It’s a problem not only eSports players face. In many video games there are participants in online games who seem to have only one goal: To deprive other players of the fun of playing. This is also the case in League of Legends (LoL).
In recent weeks, the world’s most successful LoL eSports player was particularly affected by this – T1 superstar ‘Faker’. He could therefore hardly finish a match properly, which annoyed him. “If I wasn’t a professional player, I wouldn’t play solo cue at all because it’s not fun,” he wrote on Twitter.
Especially for eSports players, the random interaction with people, some of whom come from other regions, is extremely nerve-wracking. Actually, the solo cue is used by professionals to practise new tactics, different champions and different positions. But if other players are not on the same level or play badly on purpose, this is an impossibility.
Champions cue as a solution?
Since anyone can participate without invitation, the solo cue is not designed for professional training anyway. Nevertheless, playing at the highest level requires a training ground. Riot’s solution for the eSportsmen (not only from Korea) could be the North American model “Champions Queue”.
There, only selected players are given the opportunity to take part in duels – which in turn makes fair and high-class competition possible. Developer Riot would therefore do well to introduce this type of matchmaking worldwide in order to offer all eSports players a suitable environment for training.
