Why Lewis Hamilton is really into old console games right now and which classic he bought ahead of the Formula One Canadian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton has discovered a new, old passion for himself in the middle of the 2022 Formula One season: video games. Before the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, the seven-time world champion was seen sitting in his hotel room operating a console. “Somehow I got the itch to play old games,” Hamilton explained.
He probably got the idea by accident: while rummaging around in his own four walls. “I found an old Nintendo 64 in the attic,” Hamilton says. “Then I picked up ‘Golden Eye’.”
“When I arrived here [in Canada], I really wanted to get ‘Mario Kart’, but they didn’t have that for the Nintendo 64.” Hamilton, however, quickly found a solution and picked up a Sega Genesis instead. “They also had the Senna game,” namely “Ayrton Senna’s Super Monaco GP 2” from 1992.

The game immediately captivated Hamilton: “I’ve spent the past few evenings playing it. I’m not that good at it though,” Hamilton says.
This was overheard by his last year’s World Championship rival Max Verstappen, and looking ahead to the current Formula One season, he immediately asked mischievously, “Any porpoising issues in the game?” Hamilton took it in stride, answering simply: “No, no porpoising. “
