Nike’s lively Brazil-themed World Cup ad Beats Adidas’ star-filled Creative Failure

Nike’s lively Brazil-themed World Cup ad beats Adidas’ star-filled creative failure Nike released its latest World Cup commercial featuring some Brazilian stars and many kids in love with football. It is a pulsating ad that starts off in the Brazil locker room, where Willian plays a trick on Coutinho. A video is recorded, it goes viral and then we’re off to the streets of Brazil. Neymar doesn’t appear, but is heavily featured as the nation’s idol. Ronaldo also makes a cameo, recreating the moment from that famous 1998 World Cup commercial, when he hits the airport post.

It is an advert befitting of Nike’s reputation for releasing memorable World Cup videos that capture the moment and grip of the fans. It’s also a much better commercial than Adidas’ “Creativity is the answer” that features dozens of football superstars, including Leo Messi, Mohamed Salah, Paul Pogba, Jose Mourinho, as well as several well-known names on the American continent. Getting them all to cooperate must have cost a fortune, yet the end result is less than satisfying. Watching the advertisement leaves the impression of a picture painted by a failed artist. It shows that money can buy you many things, but it can’t buy you quality. It also can’t buy your way into people’s feelings. Nike’s lively Brazil-themed ad takes you there, in Brazil, and makes you want to be a part of what’s going on. It’s lively, colorful, real and gets you pumped up. What else do you want? All Brazil need to do now is win the World Cup and justify the support of the nation. La Selecao’s mission starts on June 17 in Rostov-on-Don against Switzerland.
