Success for wrestler Luisa Niemesch. The German hopeful for Paris remains at the top of the European rankings
Olympic hopeful Luisa Niemesch has won her third European Championship medal in a row in Bucharest. But once again it wasn’t enough for gold. The 28-year-old from SV Germania Weingarten lost 4:5 to Grace Bullen from Norway in the final of the 62 kg weight class. Niemesch had already won silver in 2022 and bronze in 2023.
She secured her ticket for the Olympic Games, the only one so far for the German Wrestling Federation (DRB), with fifth place at last year’s World Championships. No places for Paris will be awarded at the European Championships. The qualifying tournaments will take place from April 5 to 7 in Baku and from May 9 to 12 in Istanbul.
Niemesch won the second German medal in Bucharest. Anastasia Blayvas from KFC Leipzig had previously won bronze in the 55 kg category
