Niemeier coach warns: “Don’t be dazzled by Wimbledon”.

The coach of tennis hopeful Jule Niemeier has warned against expecting too much at the upcoming US Open.

“You mustn’t make the mistake of being blinded by the Wimbledon tournament and thinking: the step came quickly now, then the next step will also come as quickly,” coach Christopher Kas told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

The 23-year-old Niemeier was only eliminated in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon against her German colleague Tatjana Maria (35). “The worst thing would be to expect this great success again now,” warned Kas, who also sees this danger with his athlete: “Of course you see the world a bit differently after such a success, your expectations of yourself change. “

Rittner: Niemeier has “still room for improvement “

Niemeier, who is ranked 108th in the world and has just made it into the main draw of the US Open, will face Sofia Kenin in the first round. The American won the Australian Open in 2020. Niemeier still has “room for improvement” in her movements on hard court, said national coach Barbara Rittner, “nevertheless, I am a fan of Jule, of the way she plays”.

Kas has been coaching the Dortmund player for five months and has previously coached Sabine Lisicki and Mona Barthel. He believes Niemeier still needs about a year and a half “until she can start playing her best tennis in many areas”.
