VfL Wolfsburg have signed Kevin Paredes from MLS club DC United. The 18-year-old will sign a contract with the Wolves until 2026.
FC Augsburg started the winter transfer window with Ricardo Pepi, Hoffenheim followed suit with Justin Che – and now Wolfsburg have signed Paredes. The 18-year-old US-American with roots in the Dominican Republic completed his medical check with the Lower Saxons on Friday and then signed a contract for four and a half years.
Paredes made his professional debut at the age of 16, but in the second American league with Loudoun United FC – the reserve team of DC United. The left winger returned there in 2020 and has since scored three goals and made two assists in 41 competitive appearances.
“Can also play in the centre “
“We are very pleased that Kevin was very quickly convinced of our philosophy and our way and comes to us,” sports director Marcel Schäfer is quoted as saying in a club statement: “Despite his age, he has already been able to gain some experience at the professional level and can be used not only on the left wing but also in the centre. In addition, he brings speed and dynamism, is very agile and nimble with the ball, makes a lot of metres on the pitch and brings a really good mentality.” Paredes will be wearing number 40 at the back for VfL in future.
