Belgrade – Austrian Dominic Thiem has suffered another setback in his comeback. The 28-year-old tennis pro lost to Australian John Millman 3-6, 6-3, 4-6 at the clay-court tournament in Belgrade and was eliminated in the first round.
For Thiem, it was his first appearance at an ATP tournament since June 2021, after which the 2020 US Open champion had to take a long break due to a complicated hand injury.
At the end of March, Thiem played his first official match after the long break at the Challenger tournament in Marbella, but lost clearly in two sets against the unknown Argentine Pedro Cachin. After that he was set back again by a coronavirus infection. Against Millman, Thiem showed some good approaches, but had to admit defeat after 2:33 hours.
