Charles Aranguiz has had a painful twelve months. Now Bayer Leverkusen will have to do without the Chilean again
Aranguiz was already absent from the matchday 8 summit meeting against Bayern Munich (1:5) on Sunday afternoon because the midfielder had injured himself in final training. On Tuesday, the Werkself announced the diagnosis.
According to the report, Aranguiz suffered a “muscle-tendon injury” in his right calf, which is why Bayer 04 will have to do without the Chilean international “in the medium term”. According to the club, Aranguiz is not expected to return until after the international break in mid-November. After the final matchdays of the respective qualifying rounds for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar this year, the Bundesliga resumes play on the weekend of 19 November. Leverkusen face VfL Bochum in front of their own crowd on Saturday, so Aranguiz could make his comeback against the promoted side.
Aranguiz had already had to take a longer break last season due to Achilles tendon problems and a torn muscle fibre in his calf. Afterwards, the six-man, who is so important for Bayer, did not get going as usual in the second half of the 2020/21 season. In the games of the season so far, the 32-year-old – who has played for Bayer since the summer of 2015 (176 Bundesliga games, 13 goals) – was able to stabilise his performance again and achieved an average kicker rating of 3.00 in his six league games.
