Pia-Sophie Wolter (23) will be missing for months for the women of VfL Wolfsburg. She joins the ranks of the lazarette
After Alexandra Popp and Ewa Pajor, the women of VfL Wolfsburg have to cope with the next long-term absence. Pia-Sophie Wolter tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee in Sunday’s 3-0 home win against Cologne.
Wolter had only been substituted in the 62nd minute, two minutes before the end of normal playing time she could no longer continue and had to leave the field supported.
The 23-year-old is due to undergo surgery in the coming days. “This diagnosis is a bitter blow for us, first and foremost of course for Pia herself,” says Ralf Kellermann, sporting director. “She has taken another step forward this season in particular and was an important building block in our offensive with her dynamism and flexibility. Now, after Ewa Pajor and Alexandra Popp, we have to deal with another long-term absence and compensate for it in the best possible way. I still have great confidence in our squad and I am convinced that we will succeed in this challenge as a collective team.
