QJMotor presents the project for the 2024 Supersport World Championship at the WSBK event in Barcelona: The Chinese want to enter the Superbike World Championship as quickly as possible
QJMotor presented its new project for the Supersport World Championship as part of the European Superbike World Championship opener in Barcelona. The Chinese manufacturer presented the SRK800RR, which Raffaele de Rosa will be riding. In the long term, QJMotor would also like to set up a WSBK project. Puccetti-Racing has been selected as a partner
“Entering the championship is necessary if you are pursuing the goal of building a high-performance motorcycle,” comments Racing Manager Yongqi Yang. “We want to develop racing technologies and build a racing DNA.”
“In our opinion, it is a great opportunity to promote the QJ Motor brand worldwide. These are the reasons why we are competing in the championship,” commented Yongqi Yang on QJMotor’s entry.
The QJMotor SRK800RR is a supersport motorcycle with an in-line four-cylinder engine and large aero elements in the cockpit area. In the first test of strength with the competition from Ducati, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Triumph, MV Agusta and Honda, Raffaele de Rosa was 6.2 seconds behind and finished in 33rd and last position. In terms of top speed, QJMotor was around 25 km/h behind the leaders.
“The QJMotor brand was only created four years ago. We are developing at a very fast pace,” explains Daquan Zhou, Head of the Research and Development Department at QJMotor. “QJMotor has already developed into a well-known brand in China,” he adds.
“There is a three-year plan,” announced Daquan Zhou in Barcelona. “We want to be there this season. We want to learn, develop and improve our bike. We also want to gain as much experience as possible. “
“Next year, we want to expand our team and equip more than one rider. We will do our best to make it onto the podium. After that, we want to set up a WSBK project,” explains Daquan Zhou and emphasizes: “We are pursuing a long-term plan.”
The addition of another Chinese brand could be a harbinger of a race in China. Dorna manager Gregorio Lavilla announced at the press conference that they have already looked at tracks in China. There was a lot of criticism of the calendar for the 2024 WSBK season because, apart from the season opener in Australia, the races will be held exclusively in Europe
