Top tennis talent Justin Engel is making a brilliant start on the tour – and is now relying on the experience of Philipp Kohlschreiber.
Top talent Justin Engel is considered a great hope for German men’s tennis – and is now relying on a prominent coach on his way to the top. As announced on Friday, former professional Philipp Kohlschreiber is joining the coaching team around the father of the 17-year-old from Nuremberg.
His goal is “to get the best out of Justin,” Kohlschreiber (41) said on Sky, speaking of the “most exciting task in Germany – maybe even worldwide at the moment.” It is “a great honor” for the former world number 16.
Youngest ATP winner since Carlos Alcaraz
Justin Engel had played his first ever ATP professional tour match in Almaty, Kazakhstan, shortly after his 17th birthday at the beginning of October and celebrated an immediate victory against Coleman Wong from Hong Kong.
He thus became the youngest winner of an ATP match since top star Carlos Alcaraz in 2020. He then held his own against world number 31 Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina, losing 4-6, 6-7.
