New job for Kerber: sports director in Bad Homburg

Former Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber is pregnant but taking on a new role.

Angelique Kerber will take on more responsibility as the new sports director at the tennis tournament in Bad Homburg. The pregnant 37-year-old and former ambassador will form a dual leadership with her manager, tournament director Aljoscha Thron, the organizers announced.

“For me, the tournament has been a labor of love from the very beginning,” said the former world number one. ‘I know what the players need. It’s going to be a bit of work for me.’ She left open the question of whether she would be on site this time. Kerber is expecting her second child in the summer.

As a mother of daughter Liana (2), Kerber returned to competitive sports before ending her career at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France. In Bad Homburg, the three-time Grand Slam tournament winner celebrated the title at the 2021 premiere.
