Since the end of their careers, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf have led a reclusive life. But now the ex-tennis pro will soon have a new job
Andre Agassi will succeed John McEnroe as Team World Captain at the Laver Cup. As the organizers of the tennis show tournament announced on Wednesday, Agassi, former world number one and eight-time Grand Slam winner, will succeed his US compatriot in San Francisco next year. McEnroe has been in charge of the team since 2017.
“I am truly honored to accept the invitation,” Agassi, husband of German tennis icon Steffi Graf, was quoted as saying in the press release. The seventh edition of the duel between top players from Europe and the rest of the world in Berlin (September 20-22) will therefore be McEnroe’s last.
The captain of Team Europe is still the former world number one Björn Borg from Sweden. His team won the invitational tournament in the first four editions, with the world team coming out on top in 2022 and 2023.
