New Bayern offer for Tah

A complete standstill in the poker between Bayern Munich and Bayer 04 for Leverkusen’s defensive boss Jonathan Tah?

Recently it was said that the transfer of Jonathan Tah from Bayer 04 to Bayern Munich was becoming increasingly unlikely. The record champions from the Isar have not followed up their first offer, which was made to the double winner weeks ago, with a second. Combined with the recent statements by Bayern patron Uli Hoeneß that no further players would be signed until the Munich club had sold one, two or even three, this painted a complete picture.

However, this is no longer the current state of play in the transfer poker between the Munich and the works club. Bayern have now submitted an offer to Bayer 04 for a package worth more than 20 million euros. After initially offering 18 million euros plus two million euros in bonuses, Munich have now added a few million euros: the third-placed club in the Bundesliga table in the past season is currently offering a fixed sum of 20 million euros plus a further five million euros in bonus payments.

A package that is unlikely to persuade Leverkusen to release their defender, who was a regular in the DFB team at the EURO in Germany. But at least a move by Munich proves that the transfer request of the season ticket champions is far from being shelved.

The 28-year-old Tah, whose contract in Leverkusen runs until the end of June 2025 and who has no ambitions to sign a new contract with his current club, is still keen to move to FC Bayern anyway.

So far, however, the defender is a Leverkusen professional who, after three weeks off following Germany’s elimination from the European Championship, will travel to the double winners’ training camp in Donaueschingen on Sunday. Tah will also be making the trip with his colleagues. It is unlikely that the clubs will come to an agreement beforehand. The central defender himself has been in agreement with Munich for weeks
